Dentures are replacements for missing teeth and tissue. These prosthetic devices are more commonly removable, however more recently, patients are able to get dentures that are fixed to the jaw line through implants, known as implant retained dentures. Dentures need to be cleaned just like regular teeth. This means that you should be cleaning your dentures day and night in order to remove food, particles, bacteria and plaque. You can purchase a mild denture cleanser from our reception staff at Face Value Dental.
A general rule of thumb for cleaning dentures is to brush, then soak and then brush again. Firstly, you should brush your dentures to remove any food particles or bacteria. Next, using a mild denture cleansing product, clean your dentures like you would normal teeth, removing stains and leaving the dentures as clean as possible. Soak your dentures in a bowl of water and then follow this up with a second scrubbing with a tooth brush.
Dentures should be stored in a safe place where they are fully submerged in water. This will keep them from warping and becoming mishapen.
Proper care will ensure that no breaks, cracks or misalignments occur to the dentures.
